Italy: The Amalfi Coast

Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is a stretch of small villages/towns along the relatively steep southern shore of the Sorrentine Peninsula. The Amalfi Coast was an hour train ride away from Rome and we took a day trip down there and hired a tour guide/driver for the day to pick us up from the train station in Napoli and take us around the coast. This visit was one for the books and we labeled this day as the best one of the trip.

Da Castatino Ristorante Bar and Pizzeria
Oh my goodness, if I were to recommend only ONE restaurant in ALL of Italy, I would recommend Da Costatino. The food was so incredible I feel like there are no words to truly describe it's heavenly taste. Just thinking about the food makes my mouth water; this meal was probably the closest to authentic we got while in Italy. I would highly recommend just getting the family style meal (caprese, bruschetta, pizza, and then three main pasta dishes of the day). It was a little pricey, about 22-25 euro, but worth it all the way.
The food wasn't the only amazing part of the experience; the view and the service was the absolute best as well.

Luigi, yes that is his name and we may have made a few Mario and Luigi jokes later in the day, was the owner of the restaurant. He had inherited the restaurant from his father and he intends to keep it in the family (I'm ok with that because I feel like that means the food will continue to be amazing). He was the most adorable little Italian man and he took such a liking to us that he insisted on serving us the main course instead of our waiter.

Meet Giovanni
We booked our tour for the day through Lovely Amalfi Coast Tours and it was the best decision ever made. Our tour guide was Giovanni and he was friendly and hilarious, he spoke English very well, knew lots of great information, catered the day and tour to fit our best needs, and was a very safe and great driver. He made the day just as memorable.
